Funeral services for Shirley Hackley of Alexander were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 7 at First Reformed Church in Alexander. The Rev. Rob Ford officiated. Interment was in Graceland Cemetery in Rowan. Dugger Ewing Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Shirley, 87, died Saturday, December 4, 1999 at the Belmond Health Care Center in Belmond.

Shirley L. Hackley was born October 7, 1912 in Rudd, the daughter of Thomas and Carrie (Bishop) Robeson. She grew up in the Rudd and Charles City area.

She was united in marriage with Leland Johnson in 1930. To this union two sons were born, Dale and Roger.

Shirley was later united in marriage with Glenn Hackley. Glenn died on May 26, 1965 and Shirley moved to Howard County in 1966 where she spent many years with her companion, John Leist. She entered the Belmond Health Care Center in 1995.

She attended the Methodist Church in Saratoga before moving back to the Alexander area.

Survivors include five grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Glenn; her parents; two sons: Dale and Roger; one grandson; one sister; and four brothers.
