HARLAN G. BRANDAU

NORA SPRINGS, IOWA - Harlan G. Brandau, 59, of Nora Springs, died Wednesday (April 21, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, as the result of a stroke.

Harlan was born September 13, 1939, in Osage, the son of Chester and Doris (Bortz) Brandau. He attended the Rudd schools and graduated from Rudd High School in 1957. He began farming with his parents and continued to do so for 25 years.

Harlan married Linda Johnson on Jan. 24, 1970, and they made their home on the family farm. To this union were born two daughters, Kathie and Teresa.

After farming, Harlan was an independent crop adjuster and a local farm insurance agent. Currently he has been working for Kelly Services at Kraft General Foods in Mason City.

Harlan served on the board of directors for the Farmer's Mutual Telephone Company in Nora Springs. He was a Rock Grove Township Trustee and was a Rural Fire Board member. Harlan was a life-long member of the Eden Presbyterian Church.

He enjoyed reading and spending time with his family and especially his two grandsons.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 24, at the Eden Presbyterian Church, rural Rudd, with the Rev. John Bates officiating. Interment will be in the Eden Presbyterian Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Champion Funeral Home, Osage, and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.

Harlan is survived by his wife, Linda Brandau, of Nora Springs; his mother, Doris Brandau, of Osage; two daughters, Kathie Blake and her husband, Tim, of Osage, and Teresa Brandau of Ames; two grandsons, Ryan and Spencer Blake, of Osage; one sister, Lavon Johansen and her husband, Mel, of Harlingen, Texas; and two brothers, Loren Brandau and his wife, Sue, of Osage, and Max Brandau and his wife, Karen, of Nora Springs.

Harlan was preceded in death by his father, Chester Brandau.
