ROCKFORD, IOWA - Earl R. Nicewarner, 85, of 509 Second Ave. N. W. in Rockford, died Monday (March 26, 2001) at his residence.

The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church, 125 East State St. in Mason City, with the Rev. Ron Stein officiating. Interment will be held in Riverside Cemetery in Rockford. Visitation will be held from 4 until 8 p.m. Thursday March 29, 2001 at the Fullerton Schumburg Funeral Home, 302 W. Main in Rockford. Visitation will continue from noon until time of services on Friday at the church.

ROCKFORD - Earl R. Nicewarner, 85, of 509 Second Ave. N.W., Rockford, died Monday (March 26, 2001) at home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, 125 East State St., Mason City, with the Rev. Ron Stein officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Rockford.

Visitation will be held from 4 until 8 p.m. today at Fullerton Schumburg Funeral Home, 302 W. Main, Rockford. Visitation will continue on Friday from 10 a.m. until time of services at the church.

Memorials may be directed to First Baptist Church.

Earl, the son of John and Bessie Johnson Nicewarner, was born Aug. 5, 1915, in Northwood, Iowa. He graduated from Manly High School and then went to Iowa Barber College in Des Moines.

On January 1, 1941, Earl was united in marriage to Ardis Wood in Albert Lea, Minn. In 1942 the couple moved to Rockford, where Earl opened his own barbershop. For 40 years, until he retired in 1979, Earl shared and told many stories to friends, neighbors and family as they had their ears lowered. For nine years, Earl drove the school bus for the special education program in the Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock school district.

Earl had an unconditional faith in his Lord. He was an active member of First Baptist Church in Mason City and prior to that he attended the Baptist church in Marble Rock where he was a lay pastor for 15 years. Earl was involved in a social club in Mason City known as the Hearthstone Club.

Earl enjoyed sports, especially basketball. He enjoyed watching "Touched by an Angel" and eating Ardis's homemade soups and deserts. Earl was a student of the Bible. Every year, starting Jan. 1, Earl would read a chapter every day in the Bible until it was finished. He would then make entries into his journal that he started in 1939. The family he adored and loved will miss him greatly and treasure every memory.

Earl is survived by his wife, Ardis; one son, Earl Jr. and his wife, J. Averil, and their daughter, Heidi, of Gaithersburg, Md.; one sister, Eleanor, and her husband, Archie Mosiman, of Mason City, and their children, Ardis Felker and Roger Felker of Clear Lake; one brother, Russell and his wife, Freida Nicewarner, of Coon Rapids, Minn., and their child, Carol Lee Turner, of Phoenix, Ariz.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Harold.
