Phyllis Merfeld of Temple, Texas, died Sunday, December 6, 2009, in a Temple hospital. Memorial services will be at a later date.

Phyllis was born in Rockford to Elmer and Fern Smith Merfeld. She attended schools in Charles City, and Forest Lake, Minn. She lived and worked in Iowa, Minnesota, Hawaii, Texas, Maine, Oklahoma, Tennessee and retired from a nuclear power plant in Maine. Phyllis loved to dance, bowl and crochet. She attended Calvary Baptist Church, Waco, Texas.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, and a grandson, Ryan Wood.

Survivors include one daughter, Linda McMahon of Iowa; three sons, CW3 Leslie Wood and wife MaryAnn of Florida, Larry Wood and wife Kris of Iowa, and Rex Wood and wife Becky of Minnesota; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Claudia and husband Eugene Isaacs of Minnesota; three nieces and one nephew; her lifelong friend and sister in-law, Jean Wood of Iowa; and many friends in Texas.

She also left behind her beloved dogs, Jake and Magnum.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1700 Lake Success Drive, Waco, Texas 76710.
