Gerald “Jerry” Zimmer, 61, of Charles City, died Thursday, June 10, 2010, at Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

Memorial services for Jerry Zimmer will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Pastor David Werges will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday and at the church an hour prior to the service on Tuesday.

Gerald Wayne Zimmer was born November 8, 1948, at Charles City, the son of Wayne and Viola (Krumm) Zimmer. He graduated from Charles City High School in 1967 and received his Associate Degree from North Iowa Community College. Jerry worked as a heavy equipment operator for the City of Charles City for 32 years. He will be remembered as the street sweeper operator who in years past always came last in the parade to clean up. He was a member of the Isacc Walton League, National Rifle Association and former hunters education instructor. His interests included fishing, bird watching, just generally enjoying the outdoors and shooting pool.

Living family members include his special friend, Cathy Diercks of Charles City; four children, Kurt (Andrea) Zimmer of Seymour, Indiana, Kevin (Teresa) Hicks and David (Leah) Diercks both of Charles City and Tina (Lance) Johnson of Mason City; seven grandchildren; and a brother, Jim Zimmer of Lockport, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family.
