CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Geraldine "Gere" Downs, 84, of Charles City died Monday, May 31, 2010, at Cedar Health in Charles City.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 4, 2010, at the Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St. in Charles City, with the Rev. David Werges of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service.

Gere was born on February 9, 1926, in Elma, Iowa, the daughter of William and Clara (Dvorak) Kach. She graduated from Elma High School and shortly after moved to Charles City, which had been her home for over 65 years. She was a secretary for a very long time at Hilgendorf Realty. She also did wallpapering and house painting.
She was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Gere could be described as very unconventional but it was this trait that her grandkids loved. She enjoyed gambling and playing board games (as long as she was winning). She also liked to sing along with Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra, and trying to teach the grandkids all the old songs.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Nancy (Downs) Boggess; and brother, Maynard Kach.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Linda (Roger) Jordan, Connie LaCour, Michael (Betty) Downs, Patrick Downs and Jennifer (Todd) Hull; grandchildren, Lori Muskat, Jason, Katie and Michael LaCour, Sarah, Amy and Emily Downs, Parker and Danielle Downs, and Rylie, MacKenzie and Delanie Hull; three great-grandchildren; and sisters Dorothy Hilgendorf and Margie Gardner.
