Dies Following
Long Illness

CHARLES CITY, IOWA — Funeral services will be held at the Hauser Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Monday, for Lee Watkins, 77. The Reverend R.N. Benedict, pastor of the First Baptist Church, will officiate and burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

He died Thursday night at the deBuhr Nursing Home where he had been a patient for eight days. Mr. Watkins had been in failing health for the past two years, having had a series of cerebral hemorrhages.

He was born August 2, 1880 at Nashua, Iowa, the son of Darius and Ellen Watkins. He was married to Jesse Hakes, March 25, 1912, at Waverly, Iowa. He had been employed by the Waller Produce Co,. the Fisher Factory and the Charles City Manufacturing Co. He had lived in Charles City more than 50 years. He was retired.

He is survived by his wife; by three daughters: Mrs. Harold Lewis, Waterloo, Mrs. Ruth Brandau, Charles City, and Mrs. Randall Peterson, South Bend, Indiana; by two sons, Wayne, of Kansas City, Kansas, and Earl, of Buffalo, New York; and by eight grandchildren. He is also survived by Two brothers and two sisters: Claude, of Charles City, Mrs. Sam McWilliams, of Chicago, Illinois, Mrs. Percy Miles, of Cedar Rapids, and by John, of Phoenix, Arizona.

NOTES: Lee and his wife were found in the 1940 Census, living in Charles City's 1st ward.
