The Rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m. and a Vigil Scriptural Wake Service at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

CHARLES CITY, IOWA -- Dale Groesbeck, 83, of Charles City, died Tuesday, April 13, 2010, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

The Reverend Carl Ries will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at Charles City. Military Honors will be conducted by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

Francis Dale Groesbeck was born July 7, 1926, at Charles City, the son of Spencer and Dorothy (Wolf) Groesbeck. He graduated from the Charles City High School in 1944. Dale proudly served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II serving in Tinian and the Philippines. On August 3, 1947, he was united in marriage to Marguerite Jean Loye at the Church of the Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin, Minn. Dale attended Hamilton Business School before beginning his career with the Charles City Post Office where he would work for over 30 years. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, a life member of the American Legion Post #174, V.F.W. Post #3914 and the Nashua Town & Country Club.

His interests included golfing, fishing and spending time with his family and friends.

Living family members include his wife, Jean of Charles City; 4 children, David (Shizuko) Groesbeck of Fredericksburg, Va., Douglas (Linda) Groesbeck of Charles City, Julie (Mike) Barrett of Wilber, Nebr., and Jayne Stowe of Charles City; 8 grandchildren, Eisaku (Tammi) Groesbeck, Kenji (Angie) Groesbeck, Jennifer (Jody) Armentrout, Emily (Jeff) Griswold, Teresa (John) Knudtson, Dan Groesbeck, Sean (Kristen) Stowe and Jordan Stowe; 4 great grandchildren, Rasy Groesbeck, Jackson Stowe, Ethyn Groesbeck and Logan Armentrout; a brother, Monty (Pat) Groesbeck of Brainard, Minn; two sisters-in-law, Joanne (Jersey) Jermier of Cedar Falls and Judy (Tom) Courtney of McKinney, Tex.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a great grandson, Hayden Dale Stowe.

Memorials may be directed to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 106 Chapel Lane, Charles City, IA 50616 or for the research of neurology or cardiovascular diseases at Mayo Clinic, 200 First Street SW, Rochester, MN 55905.
