MARBLE ROCK, IOWA - Funeral services for Peter Lester Lauterbach, 97, of Charles City (formerly from Marble Rock) will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 9, at Reid's Funeral Chapel, 423 Bradford St., Marble Rock, with Pastor Ruth Yeaton officiating. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery, Marble Rock. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. today at Reid's Funeral Chapel, 423 Bradford St., Marble Rock.

Peter Lester Lauterbach was born Oct. 1, 1912, on a farm near Ackley, the son of Esderd and Gertrude (Johnson) Lauterbach, and died Monday, April 5, 2010, at Floyd County Memorial Hospital, Charles City.

He grew up and lived all his life on farms. From a very young age he helped his mother and older brothers on the farm. They farmed with horses, which he said many times that he was very happy to see replaced by tractors, having been taken on merry rides by several runaway teams!

As an adult he lived and farmed with his brother John and his mother on the family farm near Hampton.

Peter was united in marriage to Lelia Dorothy Nash on March 7, 1950, at Bethel Baptist Church in Marble Rock. They bought a farm west of Marble Rock where they raised three sons sending them all through college. They farmed there until their retirement in 1982. Their sons, Brian and Edward, farmed the land but Peter helped with field work until late in his 80s. He loved running the combine! The couple lived on the family farm until entering Cedar Health Nursing Home in September 2004.

Peter was a loving husband and father. He enjoyed family get togethers and the family either visited relatives or had them over to the farm almost every weekend. He would always attend the family reunion in Hampton.

He will be sadly missed by his sons, John (Catherine) Lauterbach of Fort Worth, Texas, Edward Lauterbach of Marble Rock and Brian (Barbara) Lauterbach of Charles City; and grandaughter, Anna Leis Lauterbach of Charles City, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Leila; parents, Esderd and Gertrude (Johnson) Lauterbach; sisters, Gertrude Lauterbach, Tillie Bullis, Ida Abbas, Nellie Abbas and Hilda Lemke; brothers, Guy, John, Ben and Edward Lauterbach; several nieces and nephews.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Marble Rock First Responders or the Marble Rock Lion's Club.

Funeral services have been entrusted to Reid's Funeral Chapel, 641-823-4457.
