Sharon D. Sammis (nee) Deets
NORA SPRINGS, IOWA -- Sharon D. Sammis, 52, of 19311 Yarrow St., Nora Springs, died Thursday (Aug. 3, 1995) at her home.
The body was cremated. There will be no visitation or services held. Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the Cousteau Society, 870 Greenbrier Circle, Suite, 402, Chesapeake, Va. 23325 in memory of Sharon D. Sammis.
Sharon was born Aug. 12, 1942, in Nora Springs, daughter of Ward W. Deets and Sadie E. Deets (nee) Young. She was married to George Sammis in 1963.
Sharon grew up in Clear Lake and graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1960. She lived for short periods of time in Kansas City, Kansas, and New York City, N.Y., before returning to the Clear Lake area in 1968.
Sharon was a stockholder and handled export sales for Mach III, Mason City, for 25 years, until retiring in 1992. After retirement, she stayed on the board of directors and as a consultant.
She was an avid reader and a worldwide traveler. She enjoyed raising American Saddlebred horses.
She was a member of the American Saddlebred Association, the Cousteau Society and the Confederate Air Force of America.
Survivors include her mother, Sadie Deets, of Clear Lake; one son, T.R. Sammis II, Saipan; three brothers, Douglas Deets and his wife, Sarah and their children, Mitch and Jill, of Rochester, Minn.; Jeffrey Deets and his wife, Ellen, and their children, Dan and Sarah, of Burchinal, and Mike Deets and his wife, Betsy, and their children, Matt, Michelle, and Nathan, Clear Lake; one sister, Carolyne Hudson and her husband, Wayne, of Oakland, Calif.; a special aunt, June Carr of Clear Lake; and numerous other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ward Deets; and her parents-in-law, Ted and Thelma Sammis.
