99th BIRTHDAY

CHARLES CITY - Mrs. Auguste Stange, one of Floyd County's oldest residents, observed her 99th birthday anniversary on Wednesday when she was the guest of honor at a party in the home of the Rev. and Mrs. W. C. H. Bergmann.

Mrs. Stange lives alone and does most of her own cooking and cleaning with only occasional assistance from her neighbors. She did not need glasses to read her congratulatory letter from Mrs. Mamie Eisenhower.

Mrs. Stange was born in Heinrichwolz, Germany, on February 17, 1855. She was married in Germany on October 3, 1880, and two years later the Stanges and their infant daughter came to the United States. They settled first in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, and a year later came to Charles City.

Her only daughter, Mrs. Chris Hauser, died last year. She has three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Last Sunday Mrs. Stange was honored with a family dinner at the home of her grandson, Carl Hauser, when she saw television for the frist time. She has never owned an automobile or had a telephone in her home. She enjoys listening to the radio, preferring news broadcasts and political speeches, and is an ardent politician.
