Charles L. Vandeventer, 48, of Charles City, died Monday, November 23, 2009, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City of a heart attack.

Pastor Michael Downey of the Evangelical Free Church will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at Charles City. There will be a flag presentation by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

Charles Lamont Vandeventer was born in Charles City, Iowa on November 7, 1961, the son of Edward and Evelyn (Coomer) Vandeventer. He attended Charles City Schools and in 1979 during his senior year he quit high school and joined the Marine Corps. He later received his GED and an AA degree in Security Administration. During his 12 year stint in the USMC he was stationed in many places around the world. While stationed at Camp Pendleton California he met his future wife, Linda Valencia and on October 12, 1984 they were married in Garden Grove, California.

After his release from the military he became involved in the security business, eventually owing his own security business, CLV Statewide Security in Garden Grove, California. He was also a special investigator for the Garden Grove police department. Due to health issues he sold his business in 2004, retired and returned to Charles City. Chuck loved to fish and during the years he lived in Charles City you would often see him fishing with his brother-in-law Bill at the Beauty Dam or at the Bend. He was a devoted Miami Dolphin fan beginning with the team’s inception in the late 1970s. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR and playing pool. He shared a special bond with his little dog Taco.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Linda Vandeventer of Charles City; a son, Charles Vandeventer II and a daughter, Evelyn Vandeventer both of Charles City; a grandson, Brandon Vandeventer; two sisters, Kathy (Tim) Gerkins of Oakley, Calif. and Chris (Bill) Tonn of Charles City; a brother, Ed (Sheila) Vandeventer of Nashua; adopted sister, Kathy Vandeventer of Minneapolis; uncle and aunt, Larry and Norma Carver of Mason City; an aunt, Ella Vandeventer of Charles City; and high school best friend Eric Dell of Georgia.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brothers, Ronald and Donald Vandeventer; daughter, Rosana Cortinas in 2007; and uncle, Ray Vandeventer.
