Joseph L. Springer, 66, of Charles City, died on Monday, November 16, 2009, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

Monsignor Stanley J. Hayek will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Charles City.

Joseph Leonard Springer was born July 7, 1943, in Floyd County, the son of Lawrence and Mildred (Lahey) Springer. He attended the Immaculate Conception Catholic School.

On June 1, 1963, he was united in marriage to Sharon Kay Dana at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He was employed as a night watchman at the RJC Corporation. Joseph was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. His interests included hunting, trapping, fishing, clam hunting and raising raccoons.

Living family members included his wife Sharon Springer of Charles City; three children, Colleen (Jim) Zander of Charles City, Michael (Deb) Springer of Graettinger and James (Tammy) Springer of Charles City; five grandchildren, Sarah Sullivan, Mark Mennenga, Samantha Springer, Bryan Springer and Alexa Jo Springer; two great-grandchildren, Hunter Sullivan and Isabella Fisher; five step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Larry Springer.
