Julie Idler Rice

Julie Rice, age 58, of Scottsdale, Arizona, died Thursday, October 8, 2009, at her home in Scottsdale, Arizona, from cancer.

Funeral services for Julie Rice will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City. Pastor Dennis Niezwaag will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Nashua. The family will greet friends at the church on Tuesday from 1 p.m. until service time.

Julie Rae Idler was born September 15, 1951, at Charles City, the daughter of Leighton and Verna (Klinehart) Idler. She graduated from the Charles City High School in 1969.

After graduating from Mankato Commercial College, she was employed at University Hospitals in Iowa City as a secretary in the radiology department, where she met her husband, Dr. Alfred Rice. They married on May 27, 1972, at the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City. Julie enjoyed tennis, her tape ministry, traveling, jigsaw puzzles, knitting booties for a crisis pregnancy center, and many other hand working projects. She was a member of the Scottsdale Bible Church.

Living family members include her husband Alfred Rice of Scottsdale, Ariz.; mother, Verna Gray of Charles City; sister, Connie (Frank) Francis of Clare; two nieces, Tracy Reitmeier of Cedar Rapids and Rebecca Reitmeier of Mission Viejo, Calif.; and step-sister, Jean (Bob) Bennett of Storm Lake.

She was preceded in death by her father; grandparents, Ernest and Martha Klinehart and Ed and Maude Otto; and nephew, Gerald M. White.
