Robert H. Auringer, 93, of Floyd, died Saturday, October 24, 2009, at the Stacyville Community Nursing Home in Stacyville.

Pastor Robert Holdorf will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Floyd. There will be a flag presentation and taps by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

Robert Harold Auringer was born July 13, 1916, at Bonair, the son of Paul and Stella (Setchell) Auringer. He graduated from the Charles City High School. He was then employed at the Oliver Corporation and Grossman Funeral Home.

On March 4, 1943, he was united in marriage to Madalyn Slack at Charles City. Robert served in the United States Army Air Corp. during World War II. After the war, he farmed north of Floyd and from 1954 to 1973 he owned and operated Auringer Grocery. He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Floyd. His interests included working, fishing, fixing things, traveling, reading, playing cards music and he loved children.

Living family members include his two children, Char (Gene) Lubbert of Nora Springs and Stu Auringer of Mason City; daughter-in-law, Debra Auringer of Floyd; five grandchildren, Denise (Brian) Wilkins, Jodi Lubbert, Kathy Lubbert, Bart Auringer and Emilie (Chad) McMurray; eight great grandchildren, Ashley, Alyssa, Dillon, Emma, Lauren, Dustin, Taylor and Zachary; brother, Max Auringer of Albuquerque, N.M.; sister, June Stephens of Charles City; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Pat Rake of Osage.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and a brother, Gilbert Auringer.
