Donna M. (Reis) Guthrie

SAN DIEGO, CALIF. — Donna M. (Reis) Guthrie, formerly of Charles City, passed away on Saturday, Oct.10, 2009. Donna had been living with breast cancer for three years.

Donna was the youngest of three girls, born April 2, 1925, to Carl M. and Clara G. Reis in Charles City. She moved to San Diego to live with her older sister, Thelma Glienke, in 1943. While working at a large insurance company, Donna met Robert W. Guthrie. They were married in 1948 and had three children and three grandchildren. She loved family, music and dancing and wonderful times at their beach house. “Donnie” enjoyed trips to Charles City to visit her sister, Neva Martin, and family. This visit would always include fond memories and a tour of the town.

She will be remembered by her devoted husband of 61 years, Bob; her sister, Neva Martin of Charles City; a son, Bob Jr. and wife Nancy Guthrie of La Mesa, Calif., along with grandson Ryan Guthrie of San Luis Obispo, Calif.; a daughter, Christie and husband John Whalen of South Sioux City, Nebraska, along with grandson Billy and wife Anna LeGrand of Cedar Falls; daughter Deborah, Christopher and Carly Dryden of Ventura; and extended family including her Charles City niece and nephews.

A private family service will be held Oct. 30 at Holy Cross Cemetery in San Diego. An open house for friends will follow on the 31st at the family home.
