Ralph “Jack” Johnson died Saturday, October 17, 2009, at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

A celebration of Jack’s life will be Saturday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Inurnment will be at a later date.

Ralph Lester Johnson was born March 30, 1923, in Floyd County, the son of Ralph W. and Nellie (Thompson) Johnson. He received his education at the Bassett School. Ralph proudly served in the United States Army during World War II.

On April 11, 1948, he was united in marriage to Jessie Warren. Jessie died on June 30, 1962. Jack married JoAnn Shrope on September 22, 1962.

JoAnn died on October 26, 2006. During his working career he worked for several companies including Condon Brothers and New Haven for 25 years. He was a member of the V.F.W. Jack enjoyed a great day of fishing. His family and especially his grandchildren meant a lot to Jack and he took every opportunity to share his life with them.

Living family members include a daughter, Mary Lou (Wally) Reams of Charles City; three grandchildren, Jennifer (Justin) Geerts, Ginger (Corey) Schmidt and Lindsay Reams; and six great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; both wives; two brothers, Jim and Vic Johnson; and four sisters, Lelia Rodamaker, Wilma Reinhardt, Viola Babcock and Opal Martin.
