NASHUA, IOWA — Albert Wolff, age 86 of Nashua died Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 12, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Nashua. Interment was in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, rural Charles City with the Nashua VFW Post #6792 providing military honors.

Albert William Wolff was born Jan. 6, 1923, in Nashua, the son of Adolph Gustav and Amelia Wilhelmina (Gutzmer) Wolff. He received his education in rural country school. At the age of ten, he and his brother, Adolph “Butch,” age 14, began running the family farm to enable their father to work at the former Hart-Parr Tractor Company in Charles City. He was inducted into the United States Army on April 7, 1945, and was honorably discharged as a Seaman First Class on August 1, 1946.

On January 26, 1946, in Bremerton, Wash., he married Merle Irene Bonwell. To this union three children were born. In 1954, the couple moved to their acreage north of Nashua where they lived for over 50 years. For the past two years, Albert resided at the Cedar Vale Assisted Living in Nashua.

Albert worked for the former Oliver and White Farm Tractor, retiring after 30 years, had sold real estate and been an auctioneer. In his free time he enjoyed wood-working, playing cards and was known for his story-telling.

Survivors include his wife, Merle; one son, Jim (Lora) Wolff of Keokuk; one daughter, Linda Wolff of Cedar Falls; a grandson, Brandon Wolff; a sister, Martha Crooks of Nashua; and a sister-in-law, Alice Wolff of Charles City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, David Wolff; a brother, Adolph “Butch” Wolff Jr. and a sister, Margaret Bahlmann.
