Gladys M. Dahlen, 92, of Charles City and formerly of New Hampton died on Friday, Aug. 7, 2009, at her home from natural causes.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 11, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in New Hampton with Pastor Glenn Smith officiating. Burial will be in New Hampton Cemetery with Jason Brincks, Mark Dahlen, Joshua Dahlen, Michael Givens, LeRoy Brincks and John Rankin serving as casket bearers.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. today at Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home in New Hampton and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Online condolences may be left for the family at Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home.

Memorials may be given to Redeemer Lutheran Church in New Hampton.

Gladys Marie Dahlen was born on Oct. 8, 1916, to Martin and Ida Derganzin of New Hampton. She attended school in Lawler where Gladys was an exceptional student. She then cared for her ailing mother and was a housekeeper for local families.

Gladys was united in marriage to John O. Dahlen on June 29, 1937, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. The couple farmed north of New Hampton where they raised two children, Joyce and Gene. They later farmed near Hawkeye and when John retired in 1970 they moved into New Hampton.

Upon John’s death on Oct. 20, 1980, Gladys moved to Charles City where she has lived ever since.

Gladys enjoyed playing cards with her family and playing checkers with her grandchildren. In the summer she enjoyed going to fairs and festivals in the areawhere she won stuffed animals to add to her collection. Gladys was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in New Hampton.

Gladys is survived by her children, Joyce Hinz of Charles City and Gene (Barbara) Dahlen of Waterloo; grandchildren Paula Givens of Mason City, Jason Brincks of Charles City, Mark (Angela) Dahlen of North Liberty and Melissa (Mark) Dawson of Highlands Ranch, Col.; great-grandchildren Joshua and Megan Dahlen, Michael and Rachael Givens, Drew and Amanda Dawson, and Aaron and Sara Hudson; and great great-grandson Nicholas Kearns.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband John; two brothers Peter and Joseph Derganz; and son-in-law Dale Hinz.
