At the age of 8, she and her family settled on a farm in rural Marble Rock where she received her education in the Marble Rock Public School, graduating in 1928.

On Dec. 24, 1932, she was united in marriage to George Clifford Smith at Beaver, Iowa.

They started farming east of Marble Rock along the Flood Creek until 1935, when they moved to a farm near Liscomb in Grundy County.

In 1947 they returned to Marble Rock, locating on their present farm.

Following Mr. Smith's death on Sept. 17, 1983, she continued to make her home on the farm, where she enjoyed reading, crocheting, birdwatching and taking care of the flowers in her garden and her house plants.

Henrietta's greatest love was her family and she enjoyed going to family reunions.

She was a faithful member of the Church of The Brethren in Greene, where she taught Sunday school for many years and did various volunteer work.
