GRANVILLE, ILLINOIS -- Dave Hayungs, 46, of Granville, formerly of Rudd, Iowa, died at 4:40 p.m. Wednesday, January 10, 1996, at University Hospitals in Iowa City, Iowa, while receiving a liver transplant.

Full military service with honor guard by the Granville American Legion Post #80 was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 13, 1996, at the Helmer-Shields Funeral Home, with the Rev. Brian Eble officiating. Burial was in the Granville Cemetery. Visitation was held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, at the funeral home.

Dave Hayungs was born May 29, 1949, at Greene, Iowa, to John and Betty (Raymond) Hayungs. During his school years, he was active in wrestling and football. He was presented the Order of the Arrow award from scouts and earned the God and Country award. He graduated from the Rockford, Iowa, High School in May of 1969 and enlisted and entered into the military service in the United States Army serving from 1969 to 1972, with 26 months in Vietnam.

He was united in marriage to Gloria Klodt Mast on Dec. 9, 1972, in Waterloo, Iowa. He was co-owner of Pro Remodeling of Peru, Illinois.

Survivors include his parents, John and Betty Hayungs of Rudd, Iowa; his wife, Gloria, of Granville; two sons, David and his wife, Gina, of Granville; and Edward Mast and his wife, Tammy, of Independence, Iowa; four grandchildren; two brothers, Darrell and John, both of Rudd, Iowa; two sisters, Sharon Hayungs and her friend, Louis Ziesman of Clear Lake, Iowa, and Karen Courter of Rudd, Iowa; and a niece, Lisa Courter of Rudd, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Richard; and a brother-in-law, John Courter.
