NORA SPRINGS, IOWA -- Cornellia M. Siewertsen, 90, of 907 W. Congress St., Nora Springs, died Thursday, July 23, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 27, at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 101 N. Hawkeye Ave., Nora Springs, with the Rev. Dr. Jennifer Edinger officiating. Burial will be at the Rock Falls Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m., Sunday, July 26, at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye Ave., Nora Springs.

Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa or Mended Hearts in memory of Cornellia, sent to Olene Schroeder, 401 S. Second St., Greene, IA 50636.

Cornellia was born July 28, 1918, in Swea City, the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Schluetner) Lang. She graduated from St. Joseph's Catholic School. On March 1, 1938, Cornellia married Erwin Siewertsen in Albert Lea, Minn., and to this union eight children were born. Cornellia was a homemaker and farm wife, taking care of her children and helping her husband run the farm in Floyd. She was very active with all of the day-to-day operations on the farm.

In her spare time Cornellia liked to crochet, garden and play cards. She especially enjoyed the trips she went on with the Nora Springs Care Center. Most of all Cornellia loved her family, and especially enjoyed her grandchildren. She was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, where she participated in many of their activities, the L.U.G.A., and the Senior Citizens Center of Rock Falls.

She is survived by her children, Venita Roy of Apple Valley, Minn., Idona Sue (Jack) Patton of Cedar Rapids, Maynard (Debra) Siewertsen of Fredricksburg, Martha Torres of Waseca, Minn., and Olene (Allen) Schroeder of Greene, 17 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and her sister, Veronica Sutton, of Mason City.

Cornellia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Erwin, her daughters, Dvona Siewertsen and Rosa Beth Bass; a daughter in infancy, Joann Siewertsen; her grandson, Darren Roy, four brothers, four sisters and many other relatives.
