Glen Hovey

CHARLES CITY, IOWA -- Glen Hovey, 68, of 1107 18th Ave., died Tuesday (Aug. 22, 1995) at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn., following a short illness of infectious pneumonia.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Highway 18 and Clark Streets. Monsignor Stanley J. Hayek, pastor, will be conducting the service. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with military rites. Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. today at Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., where there will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.

Glen was born to George Hovey and Velma (nee) McDonald Hovey at Independence, on May 30, 1927. Glen attended school in Charles City.

After schooling, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps, 1943-46. Glen married Betty L. Bailey in Charles City on June 24, 1948. The couple remained in the area as operators of a petroleum distributing business, Hovey Oil Company, and a group of convenience stores.

Glen has been active in community organizations. He was a member of the Moose, the V.F.W., the American Legion and the Iowa Petroleum Marketers Association and Classic Car Club.

Living family members include his wife, Betty, of Charles City; two daughters, Glenda and her husband, Dennis Gifford, and Geri and her husband, Mike Frascht, all of Charles City; one son, Scott and his wife, Marsha Hovey of Charles City; and eight grandchildren, Brandy and Lacey Gifford; Nicole, Stewart, and Valerie Frascht; and Taylor, Samantha, and Katie Hovey. Other family members include three brothers, Kenneth Hovey and Raymond Hovey, both of Charles City, and George Hovey of Las Vegas, Nev., and one sister, Ruth (Mrs. Dale) Chestek of Copperas Cove, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Velma Hovey, and one sister, Lois.
