Richard W. Starkey, 57, of Brooklyn Park, Minn. died Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at Columbia Heights, Minn., after a short battle with cancer.

Graveside services for Richard Starkey will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at the Riverside Cemetery in Charles City. There will be a flag presentation by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

Richard William Starkey was born January 1, 1952, at Charles City, the son of Robert and Ruth (Dailey) Starkey. He graduated from the Charles City High School in 1970 and Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids. Richard served in the United Navy serving in Vietnam. He was employed for 30 years at the Wrico MN of Mpls. He was Financial Secretary of Local 1140 Int’l AFL-CIO Electrical, Radio & Machine Workers Union. Richard was the Treasurer and Secretary for the Fridley Alano Society. Most weekends you could find Richard watching NASCAR races. He had also been to Daytona Beach several times. Rich will be deeply missed by his 20 family.

He will be deeply missed by his siblings, Glen (Kathy) Starkey of Mill Valley, Calif., JonAnn Fredericks of Mason City, Jerry (JoAnn) Starkey of Mason City; brother-in-law Jack Ferch; sister-in-law, Donna Starkey.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Janice Ferch; brother, Clyde Starkey; and brother-in-law, Arnold Fredricks.
