CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Duane R. Wegner, 54, of 1454 Underwood Ave., Charles City, died on Monday, May 18, 2009, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, after a courageous, five-year battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 22, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 200 S. Main St., Charles City, with the Rev. Dennis Niezwaag officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Charles City.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., Charles City, and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Stories, condolences, and thoughts may be shared with the family on the funeral home Web site at www.Fullertonfh.com .

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Duane Wegner Memorial Fund.

Duane R. Wegner, 54, of 1454 Underwood Avenue in Charles City, passed away Monday, May 18, 2009 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City after a courageous, five-year battle with cancer.

A funeral service will be held Friday, May 22, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 200 Main Street S, in Charles City, with Rev. Dennis Niezwaag officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City. A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 21 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt Street, Charles City, and again one hour prior to the service at the church. Stories, condolences, and thoughts may be shared with the family on the funeral home website at www.Fullertonfh.com . In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Duane Wegner Memorial Fund.

Duane was born on January 24, 1955 in Charles City, the son of Russell and Eileen (Meyer) Wegner. He graduated from Charles City High School in 1973. He was united in marriage to Christine Shultz on June 4, 1976 at the Trinity Methodist Church in Charles City. Duane grew up farming with his family, was then employed with White Farm, and finally worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation for 24 years. Duane and Christy also raised dogs and Tennessee walking horses on their farm near Colwell.

Duane was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, and also attended First United Methodist Church in Livingston, TN. His Faith was very important to him. Duane loved the outdoors. He looked forward to fishing trips in Canada and Tennessee, horseback riding, and 4-wheeling. Most importantly he enjoyed participating in all the activities his family was involved in.

Duane was preceded in death by his father, Russell Wegner.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Christine; children, Jesse and Tanner Wegner and McKenzie (Nicholas) Raab; mother, Eileen Wegner; brother, Alan (Karen) Wegner; and many other nieces, nephews and friends.
