CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Alice Hauser, age 96, of Charles City, died on Saturday, May 2, 2009, at Cedar Health in Charles City.

Funeral services for Alice Hauser will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the First Congregational Church in Charles City, with Pastor Phil Corr, officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Hauser Funeral Home,1205 S. Main in Charles City. Visitation will continue an hour prior to the service at the church.

Alice Emma Sheldon Hauser was born on Aug. 9, 1912, at Charles City, the daughter of Ernest and Faith (Snyder) Sheldon. She graduated from the Charles City High School and National College of Education in Evanston, Illinois. Alice taught kindergarten for several years before her marriage to Carl Hauser on June 25, 1936, at Holcom Springs, rural Floyd. Over the years,Alice was a very active member of the First Congregational Church where she belonged to the Women's Fellowship, taught Sunday school for many years, sang in the choir, played the hand bells and enjoyed the Tuesday morning Bible study.

Other memberships in which she held leadership roles included the Daughters of the American Revolution, Alden Sears chapter, Pythian Sisters, Charles City Women's Club, City Improvement Association, American Association of University Women and the Chapter CY P.E.O. For 25 years, Alice was a devoted Girl Scout leader, trainer, served on the board and was known as a "Nature Nut" at Camp Christie. Alice will be remembered for her pecan "sticky" rolls, German kaffee kuchen, homemade ice cream, flower arranging and sewing for her family. Family was always very important to Alice, especially her grandchildren and geat-grandchildren and she enjoyed every opportunity to share her life with them.

Living family members include a daughter, Carole (Tom) Allen, of Charles City; a son, Carl "Kip" (Judy) Hauser, of Charles City; six grandchildren, Laurie (Michael) Vinyon, Rebecca (Patrick) Black, Stephen (Laurie) Hauser, Kristi (Steve) Booth, Bob (Kelley) Allen and Scot (Amy) Allen; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Allen (Betty Anne) Sheldon, of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and a sister, Carol Foley, of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; a nephew and two nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband on July 31, 2001; and a nephew.

Memorials may be directed to the First Congregation Church or TLC Learning Center.
