ROCKFORD, IOWA - Janet Marie Engels, 34, formerly of Rockford, died on Monday (April 19, 1997) from complications of pneumonia at her home in Keokuk. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Holy Name Catholic Church. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Schumburg's Funeral Home, with a 7 p.m. wake service. There will be viewing from 8 a.m. Thursday until time of services at Holy Name Catholic Church.

Janet M. Engels, the daughter of John and Maxine (Kramer) Engels, was born June 25, 1962, in Charles City. She was baptized into the Catholic faith on June 25, 1962. She was a member of the All Saint Parish in Keokuk.

Janet was a 1980 graduate from Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock School and a 1981 graduate of NIACC from the Optimetric Assistant Program. In recent years, Janet was employed by Park Ridge Workshop in Montrose, near Keokuk. She was an especially gifted craftsperson. She enjoyed designing and making handiwork for friends and family members.

Survivors include her parents, John and Maxine Engels of Rockford; six brothers, Gerald and his wife, Mary, of Fayette; John and his wife, Deb, of Nora Springs; Tom and his wife, Coralyn; Bob and his wife, Deb; Jim and his wife, Terri; and Pat and his wife, Pam, all of Rockford; five sisters, Connie and her husband, Robert Wiegmann of Marble Rock; Mary and her husband, Russ Litterer; Annette and her husband, Jack Schwantes; Patty and her husband, Tim Pyatt; Donna and her husband, Dean Jones, all of Rockford; 19 nephews; 24 nieces; three great nephews; one great niece; numerous other relatives; and two very supportive friends, Sally Staley of Iowa City and Lorraine Haven of Keokuk.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, John and Theresa Kramer; and August and Louise Engels; and one niece, Barbara Engels.
