Laura P. McDonald, 86, of Charles City, died Monday, March 9, 2009, at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Laura Pauline Brooks Randals McDonald was born February 26, 1923, at Bemidji, Minn., the third daughter of Joseph and Clara (Nelson) Brooks. She received her education at Bassett. On June 1, 1945, she was united in marriage to Ralph Randals at Baraboo, Wis. To this union two children, Peggy and Richard, were born. Ralph died on September 19, 1949. She then moved back to Charles City. Laura then married Chester McDonald on January 28, 1950 at Mason City.

Three sons, LeRoy, Roger and Daniel were added to this union. They lived in Charles City all their lives. Over the years Laura did housecleaning and worked at Allstates Quality Foods. Laura was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary where she had served as president, the UAW Auxiliary, the UAW Memory Club and the Navy Mothers. She enjoyed doing various types of needlework and gardening. Laura sewed professionally for individuals and for the cleaners.

She could make just about anything she set her mind to. Laura also made sure that family members received an afghan that she personally made. Family was always very important to Laura and she looked forward to those times when they could be together.

Living family members include her husband, Chester McDonald of Charles City; five children, LeRoy McDonald of Charles City, Peggy (Larry) Oleson of Nashua, Richard Randals of Brookfield, Wis., Roger (Sharon) McDonald of Mason City, and Daniel McDonald of Ionia; 10 grandchildren, Matthew McDonald, Michelle Warnecke, Melissa Ausborn, Michael Oleson, Darrell, Douglas, Jason and Christian McDonald, Brandie O’Dowd and Danielle McDonald; 15 great grandchildren; a brother, Lester Brooks of Waverly; two sisters, Daisy Boggess of Charles City and Grace (Orin) Stormeon of Arkdale, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband; 6 brothers, Albert, Robert, Leo, Carl, Charles and Frank Brooks; and 4 sisters, Florence Jenkins, and Dorothy Mae, Martha and Margaret Brooks.
