NORA SPRINGS, IOWA — Gladys M. Swedberg, 93, of Nora Springs, formerly of Charles City and Rudd, died Friday (June 17, 2005) at the Nora Springs Care Center, Nora Springs.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Rudd United Methodist Church, 611 Sixth St., Rudd, with the Rev. Jim Turner officiating. Burial will be at the Evergreen Cemetery, Rudd.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye, Nora Springs.

Gladys Marie (Allen) Swedberg was born Oct. 28, 1911, to Wilbur and Mary (Christiansen) Allen in Dixon, Ill. At the age of four, the family moved to a farm in Nebraska where she received her elementary and high school education. She attended the University of Nebraska where she received her teaching certificate and taught in the rural schools.

On June 28, 1933, she was married to Lyle Swedberg and settled on a farm. In 1935, they moved to Red Oak, Iowa, and in 1943 they moved Rudd. To this union two sons, Deryl and Donald, were born.

Gladys was baptized and received her Christian education at the Christian Church in Aurora, Neb. She was a member of Rudd United Methodist Church and the Christian Church in Charles City. She was a Sunday school teacher for many years and was active in church organizations as long as her health permitted.

Following the death of her husband in February 1961, she moved to Charles City. She worked at the Floyd County Treasurer's office for 17 years. For the last six years she was a resident of the Nora Springs Care Center.

She enjoyed crocheting, playing cards and traveling with her many friends. She enjoyed life to the fullest and loved being with her family, grandchildren, and friends.

Left to cherish her memory are her two sons: Deryl (Pat) Swedberg of Lancaster, Mo., and Don (Marge) Swedberg of Rudd; eight grandchildren: Dean Swedberg, Terri (Steve) Nelson, Lisa (John) Dooley, Karmen (Tim) Buckallew, Diana (Rob) Nelson, Kris (Joe) Beeler, Pam Engles and Jan (Lloyd) Trask; 24 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Clifford Allen, Yucca Valley, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Lyle, one sister, Lucille McBride, one brother, William Allen, and a great-grandson, Dakota Swedberg.
