William H. Paulus
ROCKFORD, IOWA — William H. Paulus, 70, died Friday (Dec. 30, 2005) at the University of Minnesota Medical Center, Minneapolis, Minn.
A funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Holy Name Catholic Church, 507 First Ave. N.W., Rockford, with the Reverend Craig E. Steimel officiating.
Interment will be in the Rockford Riverside Cemetery, with full military honors conducted by members of the Walker-Graper Post No. 338.
Visitation will be held at the Holy Name Catholic Church, 507 First Ave. N.W., Rockford, from 4 to 7 p.m. today with a Carmelite rosary at 6 p.m.; with a Scriptural wake service at 6:30 p.m., followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary.
Memorials may be directed to the William H. Paulus Memorial Fund.
William H. Paulus was born on Oct. 15, 1935, in Rockford, the son of Earl C. and Bernice Ann (Sido) Paulus. Bill graduated from Rockford High School. He farmed with his father until he enlisted in the United States Air Force on Jan. 16, 1957, serving until Oct. 28, 1960, when he was honorably discharged.
He returned to the Rockford area and went to work for White Farm Equipment, in Charles City for 20 years and worked there until his retirement.
He traveled extensively and especially enjoyed the Baltic region of Eastern Europe and Mexico, where he worked with the impoverished of the region.
Bill was an active and cherished member of the Holy Name Catholic Church, Carmelites, and the Knights of Columbus.
He enjoyed fishing, socializing, gardening, cooking, and baking; his greatest love was spending time with friedns and family, especially his nieces and nephews.
William is survived by his siblings: Janice Herman of Rockford, Robert (Mary) Paulus, of Rockford, Sandra Losee, of Rockford, Garry (Jeanie) Paulus, of Rockford, Michael Paulus, of Rockford, Richard Paulus, of Rockford, Cindy (Bernie) Goodale, of Alta Vista, and Rebecca (Terry) Farr, of North Platte, Neb.; along with 40 nieces and nephews; 66 great-nieces and nephews; and one great-great-niece; along with other relatives and friends.
William is preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Bernice Paulus; sister, JoAnn Paulus; brother, Dennis Paulus; and brothers-in-law, John Herman and Ray Losee.
