Esther was born October 15, 1917, in Nora Springs, one of nine children of Frank and Pearl (Tibbits) Weaverling. She was raised and educated in Nora Springs before being united in marriage to August Stiller on January 16, 1935, at the Methodist parsonage in Nora Springs. They farmed near Rudd and Osage before moving to a farm near Nora Springs in 1951. The couple continued to farm outside Nora Springs until 1972, when they moved into town. Esther began cooking at the dormitory kitchen at North Iowa Area Community College in 1973 and continued her work there for nearly 12 years.

Esther and August enjoyed camping, fishing, and playing cards with friends. Esther was an excellent cook, baker, and seamstress, especially fond of crocheting. She and August were members of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church and the Friendly Circle, the Wig Wam Wagon Club, and several square dancing clubs.

Left to cherish her memory are three children and their spouses; June and Richard Merriss of Rockford, Wesley and Kay Stiller of Rudd, and Patty and Dennis Holtz of Rudd; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; three brothers; and five sisters.
