CHARLES CITY, IOWA — Ethel W. Brown, 92, of Charles City died Saturday (July 17, 2004) at Mercy Living Plus in Oelwein.

Funeral services celebrating Ethel’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity United Methodist Church, 601 Milwaukee St. in Charles City. Burial will be at Sunnyside Memory Gardens, rural Charles City.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Sunnyside Funeral Home in Charles City.

Ethel was born on February 11, 1912, the daughter of Julius and Nina (Cummings) Heinmiller, of East Lincoln Township, Howard County, Iowa. Ethel grew up on the farm in East Lincoln Township.

Ms. Heinmiller married Ralph Demro of Nashua. To this union, two children were born, Dorothy Mae and Betty Ann. Ralph and Ethel later divorced.

Ethel married Otto F. Brown in October of 1949 at the Lutheran Church Parsonage in Charles City. To this union one son, Edward Charles, was born. They resided in Charles City.

Ethel worked as a waitress in Nashua. Ethel and her daughters moved to Charles City in 1943, when Ethel went to work for Oliver. Ethel worked for Oliver/White for 34 years, retiring in 1977.

She was a proud member of the AFL-CIO. She raised all three of her children in a union environment.

Ethel was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved to cook, bake and garden.

Her family will always cherish the memory of her generosity and sense of humor.

The love and special care of her niece, Lois Wright, allowed Ethel to stay in her home and live independently for many years.

Those left to celebrate the life and love of Ethel include: one daughter, Betty Kellogg, of Oelwein; one son, Edward Brown of Overland Park, Kan.; four grandchildren, Debra (Randy) Rummel of Oelwein, Denise (David) Green of Waterloo, Damon (Linda) Kellogg of Oceanside, Calif., and Dana (Shelly) Kellogg of Central City, Iowa; 10 great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter; two brothers-in-law, Frank Bronsema of Branson, Mo., and Robert Cooper of Sumner, Iowa; many nieces and nephews. And also Marilyn Jacobs of Kansas City, Mo., will cherish 28 years of memories.

Ethel was preceded in death by her husband, Otto Brown in 1995; daughter, Dorothy, in 1955; son-in-law, Lynn Kellogg; her parents; and seven sisters, Eva (Leo) Clement, Leona (Leonard) Morey, Alice (Albert) Boerschel, Dorothy (Francis) Teeple, Ruth (Edward) Cunningham, Thelma Bronsema, and Pearl Cooper; and one brother, Julius “Bud” (Marie) Heinmiller.
