During World War II, she helped out with roofing, painting, and wallpapering, which she continued to do until she was 70 years old. Her interests included gardening, growing flowers, crocheting, quilt making, and reading books. She enjoyed playing cards, watching Lawrence Welk on television and going on senior citizen’s trips. Her greatest joy was her family.

She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Royal Neighbor’s, charter member of the Happy Birthday Club, U.M.W. Circle, and a member of Rockford Senior Citizens.

Living family members include her loving children, Maxine Burke, of Rockford, and Cecil (Mary Ann) Myers, of Greene; nine grandchildren, Steven Burke, Marilou (Don) Dormeier, Ervin (Jane) Burke, Michael (Mary) Burke, Ellen (Mike) Shea, Robert (Michelle) Burke, Kristi Mason, Cecil (Linda) Myers Jr., and David Myers; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grand-children.
