NORBERT N. SCHUVER

NORA SPRINGS, IOWA — Norbert N. Schuver, of 8 S. Summit Ave.,Nora Springs, died Tuesday (March 9, 2004) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City.

Service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Holy Name Catholic Church, 507 First Ave. N.W. in Rockford, with Father Craig E. Steimel officiating. Interment will be in Park Cemetery, Nora Springs, with full military honors conducted by the American Legion Post H.D.S. #449 of Nora Springs.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye, in Nora Springs.

Norbert Nicholas, the son of Nicolous A. and Rose M. (Jungers) Schuver, was born May 31, 1923 in Granville, Iowa. At a young age he moved with his family to Nora Springs.

He received his education at and graduated from Nora Springs High School. He then attended classes at Mason City Junior College.

He was drafted into the United States Army, where he was stationed at Adak in the Aleutian Islands. During his tour he was awarded the Bronze Star.

He was honorably discharged in November 1945, returned to Nora Springs, and attended Hamilton’s Business College.

He married Geraldine C. Swanson on Dec. 1, 1945. He was then employed at Schuver Implement, where he was as an implement mechanic for 33 years.

He then handled the maintenance responsibilities for The Manor in Nora Springs until June 1989.

Norbert was very well respected for his ability to be creative and resourceful. He was a man who enjoyed working with his hands and tools, making some of his own tools when needed.

Even though spending time with his family was his greatest joy, he also enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing pool, mushroom hunting and golfing with his family and friends.

He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Mason City, a former member of Holy Name Catholic Church in Rockford, and a member of the American Legion Post H.D.S. #449 of Nora Springs.

Norbert is survived by his wife, Geraldine, of Nora Springs; two sons and six grandchildren, Mark and Linda Schuver of Lafayette, Ind., and their children, Melissa Schmidgall, of Columbus, Ohio, Jennifer Schuver, of Lakewood, Colo. and Sarah Schmidgall, of Indianapolis, Ind.; Brad and Peggy Schuver of Marion, Iowa, and their children, Katie Schuver of Spokane, Wash., Nick Schuver, of Iowa City and Kevin Schuver at home. He is also survived by one sister, Evelyn Vala, of Rockford.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Harold Schuver.

The family requests memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa.
