Raymond Edward Hirsch was born in rural Charles City, March 20, 1919, the son of Edward and Eliza (Greenzwieg) Hirsch. He was one of three children. Raymond had spent his entire life in the Charles City area, where he had attended school. On May 6, 1945, Raymond was united in marriage to Hazel H. Reetz at St. John Evangelical Lutheran, by Rev. Fritchell, in Charles City. The couple lived on a farm North of Nashua for two years and near Colwell for one year before moving to a farm South of Charles City. The couple remained there for almost 20 years before moving to a farm North and West of this location. They farmed for 47 years until retiring in 1992.

Raymond and his wife were custodians at the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #1011 in Charles City for 12 years. Raymond will be remembered for being a real "bargain hunter" attending numerous auctions, (particularly at the 4-H Building in Waverly) flea markets, garage sales, an avid collector of antiques, all with his wife Hazel at his side. He was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church and a life member of the Moose Lodge in Charles City, which he joined in 1946, and was very actively involved with for many years.

Raymond and Hazel did not have children of their own and shared special moments nurturing nieces and nephews throughout their lifetime. Raymond will be fondly remembered by family and friends who shared in his life. Those grateful for having had the privilege of sharing in Raymond's life are nieces and nephews: Alvin (Sue) Allison of Nashua; Kevin (Vicci) Allison of Taylor, Texas; Brian Allison of Nashua; Judy (John) Austin of California; Cheryl (Melvin) Chapman of California; Gary Reetz of Minneapolis, Minn.; Gaylen (Beth) Reetz of Eagan, Minn., and Marlys (Ted) Eldridge of Bolling Green, Ohio; one brother, Roger Hirsch, of Mason City; and many great nieces and nephews.

Raymond was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel on December 30, 1995; one brother, Marvin Hirsch and his parents.
