CHARLES CITY, IOWA — Merle Madsen, 74, of 112 Cedar Terrace N., Charles City, died Sunday (Feb. 1, 2004) at the Ninth St. Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.
Funeral services for Merle Madsen will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St. in Charles City. Sister Jennifer Rausch, pastoral assistant at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, will officiate.
Burial will be at a later date in Hillside Cemetery, Sheffield.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St. where the Lay Carmelites will recite the Rosary at 5 p.m. and where there will be a Vigil Scriptural Wake Service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue an hour prior to the service on Friday.

Funeral services for Merle Madsen will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Sr. Jennifer Rausch, pastoral assistant at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in Hillside Cemetery, Sheffield.

Merle Robert Madsen was born April 22, 1929, at Charles City, the son of Pedar and Opal (Cutler) Madsen. He graduated from the Charles City High School in 1947. Merle married Myra Parks in 1963. Myra died on April 23, 1988. On August 2, 1991, Merle was united in marriage to Sharon Schilling Jaeger at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. Merle worked at Hydrotile Machinery Company in Nashua for 30 years retiring in 1991. He was a member of the Moose Lodge. His interests included woodworking, collecting steins, fishing, bowling, golfing, watching basketball and football, and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Living family members include his wife, Sharon of Charles City; a daughter, Hope Olsen of North Brook, IL; a son, Wayne (Rose) Crouch of West Gate; a step son, Dana (Lisa) Jaeger of Cedar Falls; five step grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; a sister, Viola Snyder of Rockville, Minn.; and a sister-in-law, Shirley Madsen of Charles City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, and a brother, Wesley Madsen.
