Roger F. Chesnut, 78, of 2531 Timber Ave., Charles City, died early Thursday evening (December 4, 2003) at his home.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday (Dec. 9, 2003) at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 106 Chapel Lane, Charles City, with Rev. Carl Ries officiating. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Charles City, with Military Rites accorded by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

The family will greet friends Monday (Dec. 8, 2003) from 4 to 7 p.m. at Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., Charles City. The rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. and the scripture wake service at 7 p.m. Those wishing to extend memorials or an expression of sympathy may direct them to the family.

Roger Franklin Chesnut was born in Rudd April 14, 1925, the son of Frank Mason and Lula Beth (Wagner) Chesnut. He attended school in Rudd and Floyd. Roger had enlisted into the U.S. Navy, honorably and faithfully serving in the South Pacific during World War II. On January 15, 1947, Roger was united in marriage to Arlene N. Logan. Roger was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the V.F.W., both of Charles City. Roger retired from Oliver-White in Charles City, after 30 years of service. He was a farmer, skilled carpenter and woodworker.

Roger's interest and leisure activities included spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and friends. He enjoyed camping, fishing and listening to bluegrass music. Roger was very proud of his family. Roger will be best remembered for being loving, caring and giving of himself.

Those grateful for having had the privilege of sharing in his life are his wife Arlene, his three children, Carlene Wolf and her husband, Doug of Charles City; Gary Chesnut and his wife Bonnie, of Omaha, Neb.; Doug Chesnut and his wife Dolly of Iowa City; eight grandchildren, Mike Borchard, Jeff Borchard, Jennifer Chesnut, Nic Chesnut, Kelli Chesnut, Ben Chesnut, Carissa Chesnut and Lynsey Chesnut; two great grandchildren, Matthew Borchard and Audrey Borchard; one sister, Marlys Hodina and her husband, Stanley of Floyd; one brother, Donald Chesnut and his wife, Zona of Horatio, Ark., and two brothers-in-law, Harold Teeple and Willard Ryner of Nora Springs.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Lucille Teeple and Shirley Ryner.
