Mary I. Drake, 63, formerly of 404 Hulin St., Charles City, died Sunday evening, December 21, 2003, at the IOOF Home in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, December 24, 2003, at the Faith Bible Chapel, 1701 Ohio St., Charles City, with the Rev. Jack Vanden Heuvel officiating. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City. The family will greet friends from 3-7 p.m. Tuesday, December 23, 2003, at the Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., Charles City, the visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. Those wishing to extend memorials or expressions of sympathy may direct them to the family.

Mary I. Drake was born February 9, 1940, in Lawrence, Kan., the daughter of Thomas R. and Anna M. (Eizenhamer) Patterson. Mary attended and graduated school in Lawrence, Kan. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.

Mary was dedicated and devoted to her faith, she was a member Weslyan Methodist Church in Charles City. Mary was employed as a Home Health Aide with Floyd County Home Health for many years, until retiring for health reasons in 2002. Mary had taught Head start for twenty years in Floyd County. Mary had also been employed part time at the Buy Low Self Serve in Charles City. Some of Mary's interest and leisure activities included flower and vegetable gardening and working with a variety of crafts. She will be best remembered for being a kind and nurturing mother, grandmother and sister. The family recalls that Mary was a very outgoing person and her greatest joy in life was assisting and serving the public.

Those grateful for having had the privilege of sharing in her life are her mother, Anna Marie Patterson of Lawrence, Kan.; her five children, Forrest Drake of Mason City; Fawn Boynton of California; Damon Drake of Jeffersonville, Ind.; Darcy Lee and her husband, Kurt of Mason City; and Brendan Drake and his wife, Karen of Washington, D.C.; one sister, Amanda Barnes of Baldwin, Kan; four brothers, Robert Patterson and his wife, Maxine of Lawrence, Kan; George Patterson and his wife, Sylvia of McCook, Neb.; Joseph Patterson and his wife, Shirley and James Patterson and his wife, Pat all of Lawrence, Kan; eight grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Preceding Mary in death are her father, Thomas R. Patterson, and one brother in infancy.
