Laura Holman, 91, of Charles City, Iowa, and formerly of West Union, Iowa, died on Sunday, November 2, 2003 at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Graveside services for Laura Holman will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the West Union Cemetery, West Union. The Rev. Galen Smith, pastor of Bethel Presbyterian Church at West Union, will officiate.

The family will greet friends at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Laura Ellen Williamson Holman was born June 12, 1912, in West Union, the daughter of Dr. Charles H. Williamson and Ellen E. (Johnston) Williamson. She was baptized and confirmed in faith at Bethel Presbyterian Church and was choir director there for many years. Laura graduated from the West Union High School and from Coe College in 1933 with a B.A. in Music. Laura taught music in several schools, retiring in 1973 from the North Fayette school district.

On December 24, 1944, Laura was united in marriage to Howard R. Holman in Cedar Rapids. After WW II they operated a candy store in Iowa City until Howard was called back for the Korean Conflict. They later lived many years on a farm south east of West Union. After Howard's passing in 1996, Laura moved to Charles City. Laura enjoyed playing the piano, bird watching, needlepoint, quilting, crafts, reading, traveling and being with her family.

Living family members include her daughter, Jackie (Jim) Moon of Charles City; two granddaughters, Jennifer (Brett) Tjaden and Jessica Moon both of Cedar Falls; two nieces and four nephews.

Her parents, husband, and a sister, Marian Irwin, preceded her in death.
