Roy Ritter, age 71, a resident of 306 6th Street, Charles City, died Wednesday, November 26, 2003, at his home.

Funeral services for Roy Ritter will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Rev. Kenneth Kent, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, Rockford, will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, Charles City. The Charles City Ceremonial Unit will conduct military honors.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until service time on Saturday.

Roy Herman Ritter was born March 12, 1932, at Marble Rock, the son of Clifford and Dorothy (Taylor) Ritter. In 1949 he graduated from the Charles City High School. Roy served in the United States Navy on the USS Midway CV4 during the Korean Conflict. On September 26, 1953, he was united in marriage to Alice Leinaweaver at Newport, Pa.. After Roy was discharged from the Navy he and Alice returned to Charles City where Roy began his 40 year career with Iowa Public Service. Roy served on the Charles City city council at the time of the tornado and also was a volunteer fireman.

He was a member of the V.F.W., American Legion, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, a charter member of the Floyd County Fish and Game Club, and was instrumental in forming the first animal shelter in Charles City. He enjoyed golfing with his wife, hunting, traveling, reading westerns, and having coffee at Don's.

Living family members include his wife of 50 years, Alice of Charles City; three daughters, Pam (Gary) Schwartz of Rockford, Judy (Larry) Gentry of Westminster, Colo., and Danelle (Derek) Clarke of Fridley, Minn.; three grandchildren, Stacey Kehrt, Brian Schwartz, and Devin Gentry; two sisters, Helen VanHorn of Charles City, and Mary (Ed) Shultz of Golden, Colo.; and three brothers, Dean (Barb) Ritter of Apple Valley, Minn., Bill (Sandra) Ritter of Golden Valley, Minn., and Mike (Mick) Ritter of Arvada, Colo.

His parents, a grandson, Ross Gentry, and a sister, Jean Shultz, preceded him in death
