Pauline Elizabeth 'Betty' Magdsick, age 80, formerly of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, passed away peacefully in the presence of her daughter Dr. Linda Magdsick, her son Dr. John Magdsick and his wife Michelle in St. Paul on June 22, 2003. She is survived also by Linda's daughter Lisa and John's sons Karl and Greg; other relatives and friends including MyRene Magdsick and Polly Girton.

Visitation will be Friday, June 27, from 4-7 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 7 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home, 6210 NE Highway 65, Fridley, Minn. Private Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Charles City, on Saturday, June 28.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Dr. Carl C. 'Pete' Magdsick.

She grew up in Charles City, daughter of Carl and Dorothy Frevert. Graduating from the University of Minnesota, she taught home economics before marrying Dr. Carl C. Magdsick in 1947. Living in Iowa until 1953, the family then moved to Sioux Falls, S.D. Pete died in 1960. Thereafter Pauline taught home economics for 14 years at Patrick Henry Jr. High School, Sioux Falls. A leader in home economics curriculum development in S.D., she created and implemented an individualized sewing curriculum. Active in Delta Kappa Gamma, P.E.O., and serving on the board of the Parkinson Assn. of S.D., Pauline enjoyed traveling abroad, knitting and sewing. Since 1976 she loved her summer home on Green Lake, Minn., where friends and family were always welcome. Pauline had Parkinsons Disease, and took her declining health with courage and grace, as she had done with her husband's sudden death in 1960. Pauline was devoted to her family and friends, moving to the Twin Cities two years ago to be near her children as her health declined. The last years her primary reason for living was seeing her grandchildren grow up. She celebrated college graduations of both her grandsons this year, and the 20th birthday of Lisa, her youngest grandchild earlier this month.

Memorials are preferred to: National Parkinson Foundation, Inc., Development Department, c/o Dianne Gross or Julian Pearson, 1501 N.W. 9th Avenue, Miami, Fla., 33136-1494 or the Parkinson Association of S.D., PO Box 87952, Sioux Falls, S.D. 57109-7952.
