ROCKFORD, IOWA - LaVon Audry Schultz, age 76 of 1849 Red Ball Rd., Rockford, died on Saturday, February 1, 2003 at the Nora Springs Care Center, Nora Springs, Floyd county, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wed., Feb. 5, 2003 at Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 2nd St. SE, Mason City. Officiating will be Pastor John Bailey assisted by LaVon's grandson Pastor John Stonecypher of the Church of God, Mason City. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral chapel. Interment will be in Park Cemetery, Nora Springs.

LAVON AUDRY SCHULTZ

ROCKFORD - LaVon Audry Schultz, 76, of 1849 Red Ball Rd., Rockford, died Saturday (Feb. 1, 2003) at the Nora Springs Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E., Mason City. Officiating will be the Rev. John Bailey assisted by LaVon's grandson, Rev. John Stonecypher of the Church of God, Mason City. Interment will be in Park Cemetery, Nora Springs.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral chapel.

Lavon was born on Feb. 28, 1926, one of 14 children, to August and Augusta "Kramer" Schrage at Bristow. She graduated in the class of 1944 from Charles City High School. In her teenage years she worked at the concession stand at the Charles City Theatre.

She married Virgil Brown Sr. on Aug. 7, 1945, and he preceded her in death in 1947. To this union was born two children.

She later was united in marriage to Albert M. Schultz on November 26, 1948. She and "Whitey" shared in the birth of six children.

LaVon continued working at various businesses in North Iowa, which included Fischer's Manufacturing during the war years making canvas bunks and cots for the GIs. She also was a seamstress and tailor at Bee's Clothing, operated the pressing and iron machines at Band Box Day Cleaners, worked as an aide at Bascombe Nursing Home, housekeeping at Americana Nursing home and received the Top Seller Award for Playhouse Toys in Iowa.

She was the president of the Sunset Generation Senior Citizens in Rockford for many years and was the manager, former president and served on the board of Peoples Food Coop in Mason City. She received the Governor's RSVP volunteer award for her work with the Nora Spring-Rock Falls School System in 1993. She was quoted as saying "I just like doing things!"

She was a devoted grandmother and teacher to many and spent many hours knitting, crocheting afghans and dishcloths as well as sewing clothes for her family and self. She also enjoyed reading biography and history books. During the active years with her family she helped her husband remodel their house and working on the farm.

Those thankful in sharing LaVon's life are her husband of 54 years, Albert "Whitey" Schultz, Rockford; her eight children, daughters Virginia "Ginny" Brown, of Osage, Peggy and her husband Roger Cheney, of Indianola, Iowa, sons Virgil and Claudia "Lewis" Brown, of Concord, N.C., Larry Schultz, of Waverly, Dan and Susan Schultz, of Stillwater, Minn., Mark and Beth Schultz, of Gales Ferry, Conn., Duane and Jane Schultz, of Iowa Falls, Benny and Valerie Schultz, of Des Moines; 22 grandchildren, Tony and John Stonecypher, Rhea Bender, Rhonda Brogher, Tom and Kevin Lewis, Wendy Brown, Nikki Johnson, Lance and Lorin Schultz, Tyler and Cale Schultz, Matthew, Becky, Ted and Mary Schultz, Eric and Megan Schultz, Heather and Brent Hanson, Joshua and Caleb Schultz; 13 great-grandchildren; and one surviving brother, Norbert and his wife, Mary Jane Schrage, of Marian, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her first husband; four sisters, Frieda Schrage, in infancy, Frieda Hildebrand, Caroline McLellan, and Augusta "Toots" Smedley; eight brothers, Earnest, Ferdinand, Christopher, Paul, Silas, Eldo, August and Sylvan Schrage; and one grandson, Doug.
