NORA SPRINGS, IOWA -- Dorothy Marie Bell, 92, of Nora Springs, died Tuesday, January 7, 2003 at the Nora Springs Care Center. Her funeral mass will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, January 11, 2003 at Holy Name Catholic Church, 507 First Avenue NW, Rockford, with Reverend Craig E. Steimel officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Charles City.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until service time Saturday at the church.

Dorothy was born February 27, 1910 in Garner, a daughter of Lawrence and Anna (Sullivan) Tobin. The family later moved to Charles City where in 1929, Dorothy was united in marriage to Burnett "Brownie" Alderman. To this union three children were born. Mr. Alderman passed away in 1945. Dorothy was united in marriage to Harley Bell on Dec. 14, 1947 in Charles City and to their union three children were born. Mr. Bell passed away in 1980.

Dorothy was a lifelong homemaker whose great joy was her family. She also enjoyed tending to her many large gardens and was a longtime member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City.

Dorothy is survived by her six children, Marvin J. Alderman of Mason City, Mrs. Eddy (Elizabeth) Scott of Mason City, Mrs. Don (Marjorie) Weiner of Rockford, Gloria Baltes of Charles City, Mrs. Joseph (Joyce) Theilen of Nora Springs, and James Bell and Bonnie of Brighton. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and one brother, Michael Tobin of Nora Springs.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, an infant daughter, Norma Jean, three sisters, one brother, and a grandchild, David Weiner.

Memorials may be directed to the Dorothy M. Bell Memorial Fund.

Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 North Hawkeye, Nora Springs, is in charge of the service.
