CHARLES CITY - Mary Gertrude Beck, 92, formerly of 1003 Allison St., Charles City, died Sunday (Dec. 1, 2002) at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 200 S. Main St., Charles City with the Rev. Dennis Niezwaag officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City.

Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. today at Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., Charles City. Visitation will continue one hour prior to service time Thursday at the Church.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Mary Gertrude Beck, 92, formerly of 1003 Allison St., Charles City, Iowa, died on Sunday, December 1, 2002, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, at the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 200 S. Main St., Charles City, with Rev. Dennis Niezwaag officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City.

Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, at Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., Charles City. Visitation will continue one hour prior to service time at the Church on Thursday. Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Mary Gertrude Beck was born July 1, 1910, in rural Charles City, the daughter of Anthony and Mary (Dinges) Auchstetter. Mary graduated from Floyd High School in 1928 where she was valedictorian of her class. Mary was united in marriage to Cecil Beck on June 8, 1930, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Mary worked as a clerk at JC Penny's for nineteen years, and was also a housewife. Mary was a member of the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Charles City. Mary was very active in helping with the church where she was on the Ladies Aid Circle, Choir Mother, and even made choir robes. When she wasn't helping with the church she delivered meals on wheels. Mary enjoyed gardening, sewing, and crocheting. Mary was never too busy to spend time with her family. Family and friends will dearly miss Mary.

Mary is survived by one son, Virgil Beck and his wife, Betty, of Bloomington, Minn.; two daughters, Arlene Thomas and her husband, Charles, of Charles City, and Shirley Hall and her husband, Leon, of Charles City; one sister, Antoinette Wiltse of Fredericka; a step-sister; Ruth Bork of Charles City; two sisters-in-law, Naomi Auchstetter of Charles City, and Jean Fisher of Charles City; nine grandchildren; and twenty-one great-grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Cecil in 1985; two brothers, Joseph, and Anthony Auchstetter; step-sister, Belva Brandon; and a half-brother, Keith Auchstetter.

Fullerton Hage Funeral Home in Charles City is in charge of arrangements.
