Jane Twining, age 79, a resident of 1203 Waller Street, Charles City, Iowa, died on Wednesday, November 6, 2002, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

A service to celebrate the life of Jane Twining will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, November 9, 2002, at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. The Rev. Dennis Niezwaag, pastor of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church, and Rev. Irving Sandberg, pastor of Messiah Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, and from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday.

Ellen Jane Beard Twining was born April 2, 1923, at New Hampton the daughter of Martin L. "Vern" and Florence (Utley) Beard. Jane graduated from the Charles City High School in 1941. On Nov. 17, 1946, Jane was united in marriage to Dale Twining at Des Moines. Jane worked at the F. W. Woolworth store and the Oliver Corporation in Charles City. After the tornado in 1968, she joined her husband Dale in the operation of the Peerless Photo Finishing Company. She was a member of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Jane loved to play 500 and bridge. Her main passion was knitting and she created beautiful sweaters, afghans, bedspreads, skirts, dresses, capes, and spring and winter coats for her family. Spending time with her two grandchildren brought special happiness to her life.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Nancy Houston of Charles City; a granddaughter, Kris Houston of Charles City; a grandson, Dale Houston and his wife Jessica of Minneapolis, Minn.; a sister, Lou Willoughby of Waterloo; and cousins, John Utley of New Hampton and Brenda Butzlaff of Greene.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Dale in 1982.
