HACIENDA HEIGHTS, CALIF. - Bruce A. Clifford, 81, of Hacienda Heights, California, died January 20, 2009, at Kindred Hospital in Brea, Calif.

Bruce was born in Nora Springs, Iowa, on May 1, 1927, the son of Viola Lucas Clifford and Bernard Clifford. He graduated from Nora Springs High School in 1944 and then served in the Navy. Bruce married Norma Sawatzky in August of 1948.

Bruce was employed by UPS (United Parcel Service) for 43 years, retiring in 1990. During that time he drove over 3.5 million accident-free miles on California Interstates. He was the first driver to ever attain this honor. He was in the "Circle of Honor" and received numerous awards during his career as a professional truck driver.

He is survived by one sister, Lolita (Lolly) Handt of Charles City; and three nieces, Eileene (Larry) Katcher of Cedar Falls, Linda (Mike) Willert of Nashua, and Diann (Steve) Lindeman of Maplewood, Minn. He is also survived by special friend, Shirley Foster, of West Covina, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Norma; and a stepdaughter, Sherry.

An inurnment and a sharing of memories time will take place at a later date.
