NORA SPRINGS, IOWA - Johann "John" A. Paulsen, 87, of Nora Springs, died Saturday, August 10, 2002 at the Nora Springs Care Center.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002 at the United Methodist Church, 202 North Hawkeye, with the Reverend Lisa Locoh officiating. Interment will follow at Park Cemetery, Nora Springs. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5 until 8 p.m. at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 North Hawkeye, and also for one hour prior to services at the church.

John was born February 27, 1915 in rural Nora Springs, the son of Hans and Katerine (Witt) Paulsen. He attended country school outside of Nora Springs before helping full time on his parents farm. John was united in marriage to Rosella Jane Dancliff on March 4, 1942 in Nora Springs. They lived on several farms near Nora Springs before moving to a farm near Marble Rock. When John retired after a lifetime of farming, the couple moved back to the town of Nora Springs. In his retirement, John enjoyed woodworking, fishing, gardening, playing cards and meeting friends for coffee at the Nora Inn Restaurant. He was a member of the Kiwanis and the United Methodist Church.

John is survived by two daughter and their husbands, Mary Jane and Daryl Rockow of Mankato, Minn., and Julie Ann and Jim Westphal of Athens, Ga., four grandchildren, Jeff Rockow of Minneapolis, Minn., Brad Rockow and his wife, Lindsey, of Ft. Worth, Texas, Emily Westphal of Athens, Ga., and Curt Westphal of Davenport, one sister, Dora Uker of Nora Springs, one sister-in-law, Geri Dancliff of Cheyenne, Wyo., and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Rosella in 1995, an infant sibling, a brother, Chris Paulsen and a sister, Inga O'Rourke.

Memorials may be directed to the John A. Paulsen Memorial Fund, 236 Skyline Court, Mankato, MN 56001 or 230 Brickleberry Ridge, Athens, GA 30605.
