NASHUA, IOWA - Elmer L. Bahlmann, age 86, of Nashua, Chickasaw county, Iowa, died on Wednesday evening, December 31, 2008, at the Ninth Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City, Floyd county, Iowa.

Funeral services were held on Monday, January 5, 2009 at the Nashua United Methodist Church in Nashua with Pastor Lundula officiating. Nelda Shepard was the organist and lead the congregation in the singing of “How Great Thou Art.” Janice Edson will sing “Amazing Grace” and “O Love That Wilt Not Let Me Go.”

Elmer Louis Bahlmann was born April 22, 1922 on the family farm in Riverton Township, in Floyd County. He was the son of Ernest and Marie (Kaack) Bahlmann. Elmer attended country schools and in 1940 he graduated from Nashua High School. He worked on the family farm.

Elmer was united in marriage to Anna Mae Beekman at St. John Lutheran Church in Nashua on August 21, 1949 and they made their home on the farm west of Nashua. To this union four children were born. Elmer continued to farm until retiring and moving to Nashua in 2000. He was a member of Nashua United Methodist Church and Farm Bureau. Elmer enjoyed hunting, woodcutting, fishing and good old time polka music.

Elmer is survived by his wife, Anna Mae; two daughters, Barbara (David) McGregor of Nashua and Judy (Jarl) Aronsen of Ankeny; one son, Bruce Bahlmann of Waseca, Minnesota; a sister, Gladys Watkins of Pocatella, Idaho; six grandchildren, Amy (Ash) Kading and Sarah McGregor; Gavin and Brent Aronsen; Immanuel and Adam Bahlmann; a great-granddaughter, Hope Kading. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Gloria in 1965; his parents; three brothers, Arnold, Edwin and Clarence Bahlmann.

Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery in Nashua. Casketbearers were: Immanuel Bahlmann, Adam Bahlmann, Gavin Aronsen, Brent Aronsen, Jarl Aronsen, and David McGregor.

Visitation was on Sunday, January 4, 2009, at the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Nashua and prior to services at the church on Monday. Memorials may be directed to the family. Online condolences may be left for Elmer at www.hugebackfuneralhome.com .
