Kathryn Borchard, age 90, of Iowa City, and formerly of Charles City, died Wednesday, November 17, 2004, at the Solon Nursing Care Center in Solon.

A funeral Mass for Kathryn will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. The Rev. Carl Ries, pastor, will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Charles City.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday where there will be a Vigil Scriptural Wake Service at 7 p.m. followed by the reciting of the Rosary.

Kathryn Elizabeth McCauley Borchard was born March 22, 1914, in Charles City, Iowa, the daughter of Thomas P. and Sarah Ann (McNally) McCauley. She graduated from the Immaculate Conception School and received her Registered Nursing Degree from St. Joseph School of Nursing of Dubuque.

On January 9, 1945, Kathryn was united in marriage to John Albert Borchard at Waterloo. She was employed as a registered nurse in the Labor and Delivery Department of the Cedar Valley Hospital from 1938-1944, and 1960-1964. Kathryn worked in the same capacity at Floyd County Memorial Hospital from 1965 to 1981.

She was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, St. Francis Circle and volunteered for many church functions.

Living family members include her son, Richard H. Borchard and his wife, Diana F. Cates of Iowa City; and two grandsons, Mike Borchard of Iowa City and Jeff Borchard of Minneapolis; and two great grandchildren, Matthew and Audrey, and their Mother, Shauna, of Iowa City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; four brothers, Donald, Edward, Francis, and Joseph; and two sisters, Rose and Luella.
