MASON CITY — Mary L. Murray, 84, formerly of Charles City, died Monday (Jan. 12, 1998) at Good Shepherd Health Center.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Church, Highway 18 and Clark, Charles City, with co-celebrants Monsignor Joseph J. Slepicka, and the Rev. Gerald Condon, officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Charles City.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Major-Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, where a scripture wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
Mary L. Murray was born Nov. 21, 1913, the daughter of John and Laura (VanDanAcker) Joerger in Bellevue. Mary moved to Elma as a child and attended school in the Elma area.
Mary married John Murray on Nov. 25, 1939, in Bellevue. After they were married they lived in Elma a short time, and then moved to Charles City in 1941, where they raised their seven children. Mary was a wonderful and very loving mother and grandmother. Mary was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City.
Survivors include two daughters, Kay Pulatie and her husband, Dave, of Phoenix, Arizona, and Mary Horvath and her husband, Tom, of Mason City; four sons, John David Murray and his wife, Jill, of Prior Lake, Minnesota, Raymond Murray and his wife, Trish, of Hampton, Michael Murray and his wife, Carol, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, and Mark Murray and his wife, Cheri, of Russellville, Arkansas; one daughter-in-law, Arla Murray of Mason City; 25 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; six sisters, Helen Kapler of St. Charles, Minnesota, Delberta Palmersheim of Elma, Irene Fisher of Stewartville, Minnesota, Dorothy Boom of Sartell, Minnesota, Gladys Armstrong and her husband, Frank, of Bakersfield, Calif., and Rita Kobliska and her husband, Jerry, of Lasosos, Calif.; four brothers, Willie Joerger of Bakersfield, Calif., Vince Yager and his wife, Shirley, of Simi Valley, Calif., Don Joerger and his wife, Marge, of Benita Springs, Fla., and Art Joerger and his wife, Sandy, of Cedar Rapids; and several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John, in 1987; son, Francis, in 1993; one sister, Marge Connelly; and four brothers, Walt, Vern, and twins, Joe and John.
